The Accidental Bestseller
Following a successful career producing some of the largest-selling sales and communications skills training programs in the financial services and technology industries, 7 Triggers to Yes author Russ Granger set about cruising the Chesapeake on his pristine vintage Chris-Craft.
Never one to retire completely, Russ continued researching his lifelong interest in psychology, human behavior, and neuroscience, and began writing his own particular brand of newsletter in the form of analysis and insights emailed to a group of colleagues and clients.
One of these was Gerhard Gschwandtner, founder and publisher of Selling Power Magazine. When urged by Gerhard to turn his musings into a book, Russ laughed.
“I’m only compiling and commenting on others’ work,” he protested.
“That’s exactly what’s needed out there,” Gschwandtner argued. “Someone to distill all of this new information into a practical formula that people can actually use.” Russ was unmoved.
Then, Russ got a call from McGraw Hill. Unbeknownst to him, Gerhard Gschwandtner had pitched the book on his behalf.
The rest, as they say, is history. The 7 Triggers to Yes garnered rapturous reviews from the business press, and was adopted by consultants and trainers across a broad spectrum of industries and companies.

Because Dad Was Dissastisfied
BY RUSSELL GRANGER
There has always been an elusive "X factor" that separates perfectly good leaders, marketers, or salespeople from those who achieve extraordinary results. These exceptional performers connect faster, captivate with ease, and engage others in ways that almost seem magical.
My father, Russ Granger, was a seasoned sales trainer in high demand whose programs were some of the largest-selling across various industries worldwide. Dad was captivated by this phenomenon of the high performing outlier. He saw that despite equal education, training, and opportunity, some just excelled beyond measure.
What was their secret?
Despite over 30 years helping hundreds of thousands of professionals all over the world become more successful using the skills and tools of customer communication, Dad was dissatisfied. It bugged him that the difference between good and great was still being framed, as if by default, to "natural talent." Not good enough, according to Dad.
Driven by a need for answers, Dad delved deep into the mechanics of communication and persuasion. His journey led him to neuroscience, and a focus on emotional triggers—simple yet potent elements of brain function. This discovery formed the backbone of his seminal work, The 7 Triggers to Yes, a book that outlined a clear, actionable formula for tapping into the very core of persuasive communication. It wasn’t just another sales strategy; it was a revelation that illuminated how top performers foster more meaningful and profitable connections.
Carrying forward this legacy, I am committed to not only preserving but also expanding on his groundbreaking work. Today, we have enhanced the 7 Triggers methodology with modern insights, integrating over a decade of real-world applications and adapting it to the evolving market landscape.
